Everyone I’ve met swears they can’t fall prey to a scam and maybe thats the first real advantage of any scam artists, people underestimate them. You see every scam artist, specifically online scam artists, I’ve come to discover, uses the same method on everyone and it works. Why? Because it’s so perfect.
Let me tell you about a scam a friend of mine went through.
-crypto scam-
She was told about a crypto website and apparently it was the launching of a new coin. All you had to do was sign up and they would give you a bonus of kes1000 and to be honest who wouldn’t want a 1000 FREE shillings. Now the catch was the minimum withdrawable was sh1500.Now here she was cautious and almost dismissed it but this guy told her to give her 200 he’d pay 300 and once she withdrew the money they’d split it.Ofcourse she agreed and sent 200 to this guy who blocked her immediately after. She called me to vent on how petty this guy was and only stealing 200 in the most pathetic mannner and that’s when it hit me, that’s how he got her.I mean if you step back and look at it online scammers have nearly identical methods.
Anatomy of a scam
  • The promise
A good scam will always have first an extravagant promise not specifically of money but something really enticing,a once in a lifetime deal.
  • Free bait
They then will always label whatever they offer as free or cheap. They’ll capitlise on our most basic attribute as humans, greed. All this i think is to divert our attention to the bigger picture, the scam.
  • The catch.

There’s always a catch,”a small fee”,im quoting it because its not really a small fee they’ve just made you perceive it that way in contrast to what you could gain.Infact it’s not a fee at all since your going to loose it anyway! Its their profit

  • Trust me

Lastly there’s never a way to attain guarantee and here is where i suppose a scammer requires skill, they will always promise and beg for trust seemingly knowing how to talk to all types of individuals dangling your reward infront of you. With that the perfect trap is set.Majority will always pay the “small fee” drunk with greed of an easy reward and the scam artist will always disappear right after leaving you convinced that he stole a small amount from you but you know all he needs is a few gullible people like you and he’ll have made his bread.

How to not get scammed
I don’t think there’s a way of escaping a scam once your hooked,i feel the only way is to control desire,if it looks too good to be true walk It’s like a well executed boxing combo attack, its always better to avoid getting caught in one.The bright side i think is the fact that all scams are basically the same so at least you can identify one by checking red flags; pressure to act fast, vague websites and contacts excetra.
Conclusion: respect the scam artist
Scammers get away with it and its our fault. We dismiss them as petty theives but in reality they are smart calculative and cunning. They exploit our weaknesses and leave us vulnerable because we are convinced they can’t.Giving them their credit ensures we’re more cautious of them and vigilant of scams.Be afraid of scammers and you just might avoid a scam!
